FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jefferson City, MO

2010 Serial Number Verification Stations Announced

In Missouri boaters are required to have a title for all vessels and/or outboard motors unless the vessel is powered by oar alone or is a sail boat less than 12 feet in length powered by sail alone. Any person who tries to register their boat or motor with the Department of Revenue will find that without a proper title many times they are required to have a serial number verification performed by the Missouri State Water Patrol. During this inspection a Water Patrol officer will check for a proper serial number and verify the vessel or motor is not stolen. The officer will complete a form 798 that will be submitted to the Department of Revenue along with the application paperwork. In order to make it easier for the public to have a serial number verification performed, the Missouri State Water Patrol has established the below listed station locations at which the public can bring a boat or motor by at the designated times. Any paperwork associated with the vessel, to include a bill of sale for all recently purchased vessels, should be presented along with the vessel at the time of the inspection. For a complete list of Department of Revenue requirements for registering a vessel/outboard motor please visit their web site at:

WHAT IS A SART?

A Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) is a group of community professionals who work
to coordinate an immediate, high quality, multidisciplinary, victim-centered response to
sexual assault cases. The team creates a mechanism to monitor the effectiveness of the
response and to promptly address problems in service delivery.

WHY IS SART IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY?

A SART can assess and improve the effectiveness of current coordinated
interventions.

A SART can identify agencies that should be involved in the
multidisciplinary team.

A SART can provide a timely victim-sensitive and coordinated response to a
sexual assault. This can increase the likelihood that victims will seek follow-
up assistance and long-term support to promote healing, whether or not a
formal police report is filed.

Surdyke Yamaha & Marina Hosts Inaugural Fall Classic Races at River Bottom Motocross Park Benefiting “Offroad Riders Matter”

RACING FOR A CAUSE

- Surdyke Yamaha & Marina Hosts Inaugural Fall Classic Races at
River Bottom Motocross Park Benefiting “Offroad Riders Matter” -

Osage Beach, MO (October 12, 2010) – Surdyke Yamaha & Marina is hosting the inaugural Fall Classic Races on

Sunday, October 17th, a dirt bike motocross race at River Bottom Motocross Park located at Cry Baby Campground

in Kaiser, Missouri. A portion of race proceeds go to Offroad Riders Matter, a not-for-profit charity “to get kids off

the street and in the dirt”.

The motocross races have classes for all ages and sizes, making it a family friendly event. Practice is

on Saturday, October 16th, followed by the races on Sunday, October 17th. The Fall Classic is spearheaded by

Greg Surdyke, owner of Surdyke Yamaha & Marina in Osage Beach, MO. Greg grew up racing dirt bikes and

contributes his years of competitive racing as an activity that kept him out of trouble in his youth. “When kids have

an extra curricular activity like riding and racing dirt bikes, it helps funnel their young energy in a positive way.

Instead of getting high on drugs, they can get high on the adrenaline rush that riding a dirt bike provides,” Surdyke

says. This very line of thinking was the catalyst for the formation of Offroad Riders Matter, a not-for-profit charity

lead by Surdyke to keep kids out of trouble from the temptations of drugs, theft, violence, etc., by introducing them

into the dirt bike lifestyle.

For more information on this event, call Greg Surdyke at (573) 348-9283 or log on to

Big Bass Bash - October 2-3, 2010

ST. LOUIS – Don’t miss this year’s premiere amateur bass fishing tournament, the 2010 Lake of the Ozarks Big Bass Bash, which will be held on October 2nd and 3rd.
Over 160 Guaranteed Places will be paid out totaling more than $160,000 in cash, including $50,000 to the heaviest bass of the weekend. This event drew over 1500 anglers in 2009 and is expected to draw even more in the fall of 2010.

The Big Bass Bash is for amateurs only. Its unique format allows the weekend angler a chance to win like the professionals. Unlike most fishing tournaments which have a team arrangement where prizes are based on total weight, the Big Bass Bash format is distinctive in that it only takes one angler just one big bass to win! The top 3 heaviest bass of the weekend will win these cash prizes - $50,000 to first place, $20,000 to second place, and $10,000 to third place.

In addition to the 3 overall payouts, there will be over $76,000 in GUARANTEED CASH prizes for the 20 largest bass caught during each semi-hourly weigh-in, for a total of 160 semi-hourly payouts.

There are numerous ways to win even more money:
$500 Exact Weight Bonus: EVERY angler that brings in a bass weighing exactly 3.00 lbs. and/or 4.00 lbs. will win $500.
T-Shirt Bonus: If you have an official t-shirt in your possession when you weigh-in and your bass drops to 21st place in any of the semi-hourly weigh-ins, you will win $125! T-Shirts will be available during registration at the lake. Quantities limited.
Triton Boats Mystery Weight Bonus: In addition to all the payouts above, the winner of Lake of the Ozarks Big Bass Bash could win an additional $50,000 in cash with the Triton Boat mystery weight and Triton Boat incentive.

There will be three weigh-in locations on Lake of the Ozarks. Anglers can weigh in at PB2, Red Oak Resort, and Alhonna Resort.

Midwest Fish Tournaments is a family-owned and operated company out of St. Louis, Missouri. Over the past 4 years, Midwest Fish Tournaments has paid back over $800,000 in cash to the Big Bass Bash participants, making it one of the Midwest’s premiere tournament organizations.

Harbor Hop Lake of the Ozarks 2010

Lake of the Ozarks, MO. - On Saturday, October 9, boaters and visitors will celebrate the 25th
Annual Harbor Hop at the Lake of the Ozarks.

The Harbor Hop is a poker run in which participants pick up playing cards in order to build
a winning poker hand and become eligible to win prizes. Players can donate $15.00 per
seven-card hand and start their run and draw their first card at any of the 31 sponsoring
restaurants and marinas along the lake’s main channel and the Big Niangua and Gravois arms.

“This event is a great opportunity for visitors and locals alike to see some of the most colorful
foliage at the lake while enjoying a great time with friends at our many participating waterfront
restaurants and marinas,” says Denise Decker, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Lake of
the Ozarks Convention and Visitor Bureau.

MID-MISSOURI GETS ITS MOMENT ON SCREEN

MID-MISSOURI GETS ITS MOMENT ON SCREEN
Production set to begin on independent short movie showcasing Lake of the Ozarks
On average, 150 people a day visit the Madison County tourism board looking for the
covered bridges from Clint Eastwood’s
Bridges of Madison County.
65,000 people a
year visit the site of the 1989 film
Field of Dreams. New Zealand saw an extra 700,000
tourist influx from 2000 to 2006, largely attributed to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
In fact, locations where a successful film is shot generally see a 54 percent increase
in tourism visits over the next 4 years, according to
The Annals of Tourism Research.
However, one of the largest tourist destinations in the Midwest, Lake of the Ozarks, has
been snubbed by the silver screen. Two men are seeking to change that.
Kris Oliver and Eric Venezia are collaborating on an independent short with the
intentions of turning it into a feature length film. The project, titled Just Another
Wednesday, gives an honest glimpse into the lives of service industry employees against
the backdrop of a picturesque Lake of the Ozarks summer day. The story follows Phillip
Jenner(John O’Mahoney), a charmingly arrogant, wise-cracking bartender as his wild
antics and careless decision making begin to catch up with him.
Kris Oliver has been a resident of Mid-Missouri since 1993 and a graduate of Missouri
State University. Eric Venezia is a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University
with a degree in Video and Television Production. The two met on St. Thomas in
the U.S. Virgin Islands, where they decided to collaborate on the project. They have
assembled a team of some of the most talented filmmakers in the area, including Director
of Photography Robert M. Barr, Production Sound Mixer Ken Paulakovich, and Make-up
Artist Barb Perkins.
Just Another Wednesday will begin shooting September 14. Principal photography
will take place at the newly opened Tailgate Party in Osage Beach, MO. There are still
openings for cast and crew looking for a high quality project to work on for credit. Any
interested party should contact Kris Oliver at (573) 434-6579.

2 DAM DAYS MARATHON PADDLE RACE FROM TRUMAN DAM TO BAGNELL DAM

2 DAM DAYS

MARATHON PADDLE RACE FROM TRUMAN DAM TO BAGNELL DAM

 “JUST FOR FUN” RECREATIONAL PADDLE

The Lake of the Ozarks Watershed Alliance, LOWA, has scheduled two paddle events.
The first event is a 91 mile marathon, flat water paddle race, for kayaks and canoes on Saturday, September 25 and Sunday, September 26. The race is from Truman Dam to Bagnell Dam with $13,500 in prize money. The second event is a “Just For Fun”
recreational paddle on Saturday, September 25 for those who find the notion of paddling
91 miles in two days a little extreme.

MARATHON PADDLE RACE DAY ONE
The marathon race begins 7 a.m., Saturday, September 25 at Drake Harbor in Warsaw,
Mo. The race will travel approximately 57 miles to Captain Ron’s at the 34 mile marker.

CLEAN WATER FESTIVAL AT CAPTAIN RON’S
The first day’s standings will be announced after the paddle Saturday, September 25 at
a “Clean Water Festival” at Captain Ron’s. The festival is a celebration of the lake for
everyone, those who are supporting the paddlers, and those just enjoying the lake. The
festival will feature live entertainment, food and booths. Businesses or organizations
interested in a booth may contact LOWA.

DAY TWO OF THE MARATHON RACE
On Sunday, September 26 the race begins at 8 a.m. at Captain Ron’s and ends 34 miles
later at Iguana Watersports near Bagnell Dam. “We’re expecting marathon kayakers from
all over the nation,” said LOWA member Caroline Toole. LOWA expects this annual
race to grow into a popular national event.
Check in for marathon paddlers will be at Drake Marine from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday,
September 24 with a mandatory safety meeting at 7 p.m.

JUST FOR FUN PADDLE
A Just For Fun paddle begins at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 25 and travelers will
paddle 14 miles from the Halfway Inn to Captain Ron’s where participants may join
in the Clean Water Festival celebrations. Just for Fun paddlers will be entered into a
drawing for a free kayak, donated by Dan Dougan of Oz Cycles and Kayaks. In addition,
there will be a first, second, and third place trophy awarded for the Just For Fun event.

RACERS WILL COMPETE FOR $13,500 IN PRIZES
Racers will compete for more than $13,500 in the two-day marathon race which will have
equal purses for the men’s and women’s division. “This is probably the largest purse
in the country for this type of race,” said Toole. There will be winners for the top three
in each division for Saturday and Sunday. This means there could be up to 31 winners.
Competitors could win up to $2,400 by taking first place both days along with the Top
Paddle Award.

DIVISIONS
There will be five divisions; men’s and women’s solo, men’s and women’s tandem and
mixed tandem. The purse is the same for each division and for each day as follows;
first place wins $700, second place wins $400, third place wins $150 and the top award
for the best over-all time for the two day event, regardless of the division is $1,000.
The entry fee for the marathon race is $150. The Just For Fun paddle entrance fee is $25
if registered by Thursday, September 24 and $30 thereafter.
An awards ceremony will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, September 26 on the Bagnell Dam
Strip. Proceeds from this event will benefit LOWA in its endeavors to maintain and
improve the water quality of the Lake of the Ozarks.

WHO IS LOWA?

LOWA is a grassroots proactive group of local residents formed to protect and preserve
our lake and its watershed. “Prevention is better than repairing problems economically,
health-wise, and for safety,” said Director Donna Swall. LOWA’s mission statement is
for citizens to preserve, protect, and improve the Lake of the Ozarks, its Watershed and
natural resources, while maintaining our economic, social, and environmental health.

For more information or to volunteer contact Donna Swall at 573-434-4400.or visit the

Leak in the Gulf????

Seepages on the sea floor near the leaking Gulf of Mexico oil well may be unrelated to the well itself, the government's incident commander says.
Adm Thad Allen said there were concerns over three areas of "anomaly" during monitoring for a pressure test on the well.
The well has been capped to see if the flow of oil can be stopped without provoking leaks in the sea bed.
If the test fails, the well will be re-opened and oil will flow out again.
Adm Allen outlined the three areas of concern.

Missouri State Water Patrol to participate in national effort to reduce boating while intoxicated incidents and raise safety

Missouri State Water Patrol to participate in national effort to reduce boating while intoxicated incidents and raise safety
The Missouri State Water Patrol announces it will participate in a safe boating campaign that spans virtually every U.S. state and territory.  "Operation Dry Water" is spearheaded by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and aims to raise awareness and reduce the incidence boating while intoxicated.

The campaign will be conducted June 25 – 27.  The Water Patrol will be conducting multiple check points and saturation patrols on lakes and rivers throughout Missouri during the June 25-27 weekend.  Nationally, alcohol and drug impairment is a contributing factor in more than one-fifth of all boating fatality accidents.

Boaters that come across a checkpoint should be prepared to be stopped as part of this effort.  Officers will make brief contact with the operator and perform a basic safety check of the boat's equipment.  If the officer suspects an operator is under the influence of intoxicants, the operator will be asked to submit to a field sobriety test.  All efforts will be made to keep the process as brief as possible and to ensure that traffic does not back up.  The Missouri State Water Patrol appreciates the public's cooperation.

The Missouri State Water Patrol reminds everyone to "boat smart."  If alcohol will be included as part of your next excursion, be sure to designate a sober captain.
